Northern Ireland Fire Service Rugby Team
Message from the Chairperson
Hi There!
On behalf of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue (NIFRS) Rugby club I wanted to say a quick hello and a very warm welcome. I hope you are all well considering the current times we are all going through both personally and as members of the emergency services. Times are not easy.
Unfortunately due to the current climate and restrictions we have not played a competitive game of rugby since the 7th February 2020 hosting the Welsh Service to a nail biting match in Belfast. The rest of our scheduled fixtures for 2020 were all cancelled.
A typical season for us would see fixtures against the other emergency services here in Northern Ireland (Police and the Prison Service) and also against our Fire Service colleagues from Dublin and Wales. Many local clubs also offer us a fixture as part of their preseason match programme or in some instances for charity events.
We have welcomed a lot of new players into the squad particularly over the last 3 years which has boosted our numbers and helped relieve some older members of playing duties! The committee has subsequently added some new faces with fresh ideas and energy to move the club forward, with a focus of ours to send one if not two 7s teams to compete in the WPFG in Rotterdam 2022.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish Stephen and the new GB committee every success in getting the team up and running again. It was a delight to hear the squad was being formed once more giving players a great opportunity to represent at one of the highest levels. I hope that we will have many representatives from the NIFRS Rugby club involved.
Lastly, I would like to wish you all well and hope that we are all back to the game we miss and love very soon. Take care.
Yours in Rugby,
Peter Bradley
