Chris Lowther; Chair
Chris started his career as an operational firefighter based at Gateshead Community Fire Station in 1997.
He has an impressive and varied background in training, community safety and operations and has taken a lead role in a number of national resilience programmes.
He was appointed Chief Fire Officer in February 2017 for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service. Chris is a member of the National Fire Chiefs Council Board (NFCC), Member of the National Fire Chiefs Council Board (NFCC), Chair of the NFCC Operations Coordination Committee (OCC), Member of the NFCC Community Risk Programme Board (CRB), NFCC Steering Group, NFCC Strategic Resilience Board (SRB) and NFCC New Dimensions II Board (ND2). In addition, he is a Trustee of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), Member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and Member of the Northumbria Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) Strategic Board.
Policy and collaboration are integral to Chris’s current role and will continue to be a focus going forward. Chris strongly believes in broadening and strengthening the fire service’s contribution to our community.

Paul Drakes Treasurer 
Paul served in Hertfordshire for 33 years and has been in involved with fire service sport locally, regionally and nationally for most of that time. He is presently the Squash section treasurer and represents Herts at ‘National Assembly’.
He was awarded the Meritorious Service Award by the then, Fire Service Sports and Athletic Association in December 2006.
Paul continues to play squash. He took over as treasurer in December 2020
